Garmin Approach G5 Golf GPS

Garmin Approach G5 Golf GPS

The Garmin Approach G5 looks more like an iPhone than a golf gps device.  The unit is sleek and the and feels incredible solid.  The screen provides a bright, clear image and is one of the few handheld gps units with a touchscreen.  Best of all the gps unit is waterproof and the interface is very user friendly.

Another great feature of the Garmin Approach G5 is that it is ready to go out of the box.  There is no need to update firmware or download course data.  Just throw in a couple of AA's and go golfing.  The preloaded courses also mean that you don't need to spend another $30 on a membership to download courses.

Garmin Approach G5 Review

We have already mentioned the innovative touchscreen, but did we mention that is it very easy to use.  The approach shot to the green is where many golf gps range finders fall short.  Some give yardage to the center and the majority just give front center back.  With the Garmin Approach G5 you control the yardage.  Simply touch the flag on the screen and move it to the current position.  This immediately gives you the correct yardage for the current pin placement.  The Approach G5 also keeps score for you as you play.

The touch screen is great and the unit starts up very fast. Not having to download courses was also a plus. Overall a great golf gps and it will really help your game.

I received as a Father’s Day gift. What a cool unit with touch screen, moveable pin locations, etc. Problem is this thing eats batteries like crazy. My first set lasted about 2 rounds. Then my second, third, and FOURTH set didn’t make it through the third round (TOTAL). Very disappointing. Garmin makes great car GPS units…I expected way better! I returned it.
